Byars Takes Crown at PA Tournament 8/25/07, Franklin, PA Under a sweltering August sky, Russ Byars once again captures the PA state title. Competitors put up some low numbers due to high water, but Byars was able to edge out the competition, scoring 34 skips. WJET TV Erie was on hand covering the event, as well as National Public Radio (NPR). |

Byars crushes Great Lakes record to win Mackinac National Tournament 7/4/07, Mackinac Island Mich. Russ Byars (Franklin, PA) won the annual Mackinac National Tournament, throwing 33 skips to edge out Guinness World Record holder Kurt Steiner who threw 30 skips. This is Byars’ third national title. Byars held the previous great lakes record, throwing a 30 in the 2005 nationals. Russ’ record is now 3 wins 1 loss at Mackinac. The momentum swings in his favor for the 2007 PA state tournament slated for August 25 2007 at river front park, Franklin, PA.

Byars on a roll with another win at the Mackinac Island National Tournament! 7/4/08 Russ Byars wins his fourth national title at the 40th annual Mackinac Island National Tournament. His winning cast was 25 skips. This is Russ’ second national title in 2 years and gives him momentum heading into the PA state tournament.
